Biography:

Successful restaurateur and celebrity chef for hire Chris Coombs is the owner and executive chef of Boston Urban Hospitality which owns the restaurants dbar, Deuxave, and Boston Chops. Chris has built up these 3 restaurants located throughout the Boston area to generate over $10 million in annual sales with over 100 employees to oversee. His approach to restaurant hospitality focuses on pairing sophisticated French-American dishes with a casual, comfortable dining setting. In 2013, Forbes Magazine named Chris to their annual list of “30 Under 30” for his contributions in bettering the food & beverage industry.

Chris fell in love with the restaurant business after working his first job as a dishwasher at a seafood restaurant when he was just 11-years-old. During his teenage years, Chris participated in the Massachusetts Restaurant Association’s ProStart School-to-Career Program which allowed him to take courses and internships focused on the restaurant business in addition to his traditional schooling. Chris went on to attend the Culinary Institute of America and graduated in 2004. He began working in restaurants around Boston and eventually met chef Patrick O’Connell who hired him to help out at the Inn at Little Washington in Washington, Virginia. While there he cooked for many personal chefs of heads of state and was asked to cook for then First Lady Laura Bush and her guests at the White House on several occasions.

Eventually Chris was itching to open his own restaurant and partnered with restauranteur Brian Piccini who owned dbar to form their own restaurant group Boston Hospitality. Chris became executive chef and co-owner of the restaurant and started by building a garden on the roof to create his own source of fresh, local ingredients. In 2010, Chris officially opened his first restaurant Deuxave in Boston and 3 years later he opened the urban steak bistro Boston Chops which was named one of Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Steakhouses. 2013 was a coming out party for Chris when he was named to both Forbes and Zagat’s list of “30 Under 30” personalities as well as earning a nomination for The People’s Best New Chef in New England from Food & Wine Magazine. He has since made appearances on Food Network’s hit cooking competition series Chopped and makes regular celebrity chef appearances at food festivals and special events each year.
