BIO: Celebrity chef Gene Briggs has been a culinary mainstay in the Charlotte area for more than a decade. With over 25 years of experience, Chef Briggs has become a master of his craft. His restaurants Blue and Table are two of Charlotte’s most sought after restaurant reservations and have consistently been ranked as two of the city’s top eateries.

Chef Briggs got his start in the culinary industry in 1979, working in various restaurants located in upstate New York. Here, he honed and perfected his practice of using fresh ingredients to create a variety of dishes that sample cuisines from around the world. This philosophy of only using the freshest ingredients has defined and inspired Chef Briggs’ cooking throughout his career, something that is still evident at his restaurants today.

In 1991, Briggs moved to Charlotte to work at Prisms Restaurant. After getting his start in the Queen City, he spent time working at many of the city’s most well known restaurants. Finally, in 2003, Briggs opened up his own restaurant for the first time, Blue Restaurant & Bar. To no surprise, the establishment quickly gained a reputation as one of Charlotte’s best restaurants.

Serving up a variety of cuisines, Blue’s menu is inspired by Spanish, French, Sicilian, Italian, and Moroccan cuisines. Chef Briggs stays true to his philosophy of only using the freshest ingredients, as he purchases locally, farm grown ingredients. Additionally, Briggs as an advocate of developing a communal relationship between local farmers and his restaurants and uses Blue as a tasty vehicle to display the advantages of such a relationship.

Following the success of Blue Restaurant & Bar, Briggs opened Table Restaurant & Bar in 2006. Table also saw immediate success and firmly planted Briggs among Charlotte’s most sought after chefs. All in all, Chef Brigg’s restaurants have won the “Best in Hot Food” category at Taste of the Nation in 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2008, have been recognized by Zagat as one of “America’s Top Restaurants” and have earned numerous Open Table awards. Brigg’s has also participated in three James Beard Dinners and numerous Chef’s Best Dinners.

Additionally, Chef Gene Briggs gives instructional cooking sessions once a month at his restaurant, Blue. Sessions are available to the public via signup, and each month Briggs focuses one utilizing one, fresh ingredient. BIO: In 2005, Gavin Kaysen took some time away from his own kitchen to do a brief internship in the kitchen at DANIEL. Today, that choice to make a move paid off when he was named executive chef at Daniel Boulud’s Café Boulud in New York.

BIO: Celebrity Chef Chef Gale Gand is the executive pastry chef and partner of the four star Mobil, five-diamond AAA, Relais & Chateaux Relais-Gourmand restaurant Tru. In 2001, Gale was acknowledged as Outstanding Pastry Chef by The James Beard Foundation and Pastry Chef of the Year by Bon Appetite magazine, in 1994 was named Food and Wine’s Top Ten Best New Chefs. Gale studied at RIT and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts for American Craftsmen and attended culinary school at La Varenne in Paris. In 2006, Gale opened up a coffee shop called Gale’s Coffee Bar, also opening in the same year, Osteria di Tramonto, Tramonto’s Steak & Seafood and RT Lounge with Rick Tramonto. In Chicago, she opened up an upscale cupcake bakery.

Gale Gand was also the host of Food Network’s Sweet Dreams, which was Food Network’s first all-dessert show. She is the host of an online educational cooking series called, The Answered Chef. Gale’s current show, The Heirloom Recipe, airs on PBS. Gale has a long list of appearances including Martha Stewart, Oprah, Iron Chef America, the Today Show, Baking with Julia Child, and judged the Food Network’s Challenge and the 2008 season of Bravo’s Top Chef. Gale has seven cookbooks, her most recent, Gale Gand’s Brunch, which was released in spring of 2009. Gale also produces her own vanilla cream soda, and a root beer called Gale’s Root Beer with artisanal cinnamon, ginger and vanilla infused. At the USA House at the Beijing Olympics, Gale’s desserts were featured and Gale is an original member of the Macy’s Culinary Council.

BIO: Celebrity Chef Frank Bonannofound his passion for cooking at an early age. Growing up in a Sicilian family, Bonanno can vividly remember how the aromas of his grandmother’s cooking filled his New Jersey home. When recounting his childhood, he also tells of how he and his mother would try out Julia Child recipes on the family in hopes recreating her culinary magic.

After graduating from the University of Denver with a degree in finance, Frank Bonanno determined that Wall Street was not for him. He decided to pursue his love of cooking and obtained a second degree from the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, NY. Not soon after, in 2001, Chef Bonanno returned to Denver to open up his first restaurant, Mizuna, and has not looked back since.

Chef Bonanno’s restaurants are regarded not only among the best restaurants in Denver, but in the entire United States. Zagat has recognized Bonanno restaurants Mizuna, Luca d’Italia, and Bones as part of their prestigious ranking of “America’s Top Restaurants.” Further exemplifying his culinary skill, Chef Frank Bonanno has opened three additional restaurants ranging in cuisine from French-casual, to American, to Asian.
