Marcel Vigneron

Known for incorporating molecular gastronomy into his cooking, Marcel Vigneron will again be utilizing his trademark culinary style August 6 against Richard Blais on Top Chef Duels. This will not be his first time on Top Chef though; he was actually the runner-up of the competition during its second season in 2006, during which time he was also developing his talents as the Master Cook at Joël Robuchon in Las Vegas. After placing behind Ilan Hall in 2006, he eventually went on to become the Executive Sous Chef at The Bazaar in the SLS Hotel in Beverley Hills in 2008. Two years later, Vigneron achieved his own reality television show on the Syfy network entitled Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen, which followed Vigneron and his crew as they tried to meet the substantial demands of their clients using Vigneron’s innovative and unique culinary technique.

Although Vigneron’s show only lasted six episodes, he was very successful as a guest on numerous other cooking shows. In 2011 he returned to the Top Chef series on Top Chef: All-Stars, in which he was eventually eliminated after the Restaurant Wars challenge. Returning to the television screen again in 2012 as a contestant on The Next Iron Chef: Redemption, Vigneron was able to make it to the final four of the competition before being eliminated. The next year, he made an appearance in Iron Chef America with Spike Mendelsohn, facing off against Iron Chefs Geoffrey Zakarian and Alex Guarnaschelli in a special Halloween edition of the series. More recently in 2014, he appeared on the NBC show Food Fighters, in which he competed against Elisha Joyce and won.

An eclectic celebrity chef speaker with a knack for incorporating the science of molecular gastronomy into his dishes, Vigneron is a young chef with the talent to take him very far in the culinary industry.

Dave Lieberman

Celebrity speaker, Dave Lieberman is best known for hosting Food Network series Good Deal with Dave Lieberman. But before he made it big on every foodie’s favorite television network, The Philadelphia native began his budding culinary show career at Ivy League, Yale University. While studying at Yale, Lieberman ran his own public-access television show called Campus Cuisine, which has been described as “sophisticated and accessible cooking with crazy college adventures.” In 2005, Lieberman made the jump from his small public-access television show to the Food Network. The big time cable television network offered Dave his own series called Good Deal with Dave Lieberman, which presents viewers with gourmet quality recipes that won’t break the bank.  In addition to his new and thriving show, Lieberman also released his first book in 2005, titled Young & Hungry, followed by a second book Dave’s Dinners: A Fresh Approach to Home-Cooked Meals, in 2006. Then in 2009 he released a third book called The 10 Things You Need to Eat, which focuses in on super foods that are not only great for the body, but taste great too, with the proper preparation.  All three books, and his show, became hits, combining two trends that every American loves: Affordable eating and healthy eating. As Lieberman’s show and books rose to popularity, so did the Chef’s name and face. The once host of Campus Cuisine was now a nationally recognized figure, and even caught the eye of popular celebrity news magazine, People, who deemed him one of America’s 50 Hottest Bachelors. As a result of Lieberman’s success, the Food Network offered him another series to host.  The web-exclusive series Eat This with Dave Lieberman features the chef personality traveling around US cities uncovering the latest trends and fads in cuisine, sampling everything from specialty meats, to flavored salts and dessert bars.  Currently, Dave resides in Los Angeles and is working on writing a new book that will be half cookbook, and half travel narrative.

Sam Zien

A self-proclaimed “everyman of television cooking”, Chef Sam Zien caters to a less experienced audience looking to make an easy but delicious meal. His series Sam the Cooking Guy is shot in his own home, and actually began as a two-minute segment on San Diego’s Fox affiliate XETV-TDT. Although the show has experienced tremendous success, Zien originally planned to create a travel show as opposed to a cooking show; however, after the September 11 attack in 2001, Zien was forced to reevaluate his idea. Deciding instead to create a cooking series for the everyday viewer, he produced his own test screening with no prior culinary training or experience. After being initially rejected from various industry experts, he sent it into two local television stations where he finally received an acceptance. In 2005, his two-minute show became a 30-minute show when it moved to County Television Network in San Diego, and eventually spread to other cities as it became more recognized, receiving numerous Regional Emmys along the way. Zien finally received his big break when Discovery Health Channel decided to include his show in their network, giving it the name Just Cook This with Sam the Cooking Guy.

With 14 Emmys under his belt, it is no surprise that Zien is also a popular culinary writer and well-known celebrity chef. He has written three cookbooks, the first published in 2008 entitled Just a Bunch of Recipes, the second in 2010 named Awesome Recipes and Kitchen Shortcuts, and the third called Just Grill This! in 2011. More recently, Zien debuted his online cooking show The Sam Livecast in 2011, eventually switching to a live-to-tape format due to its popularity.

A respected celebrity chef speaker with numerous awards and cookbooks to his name, Zien aims to provide his audience with all the tools necessary to create efficient and tasty meals.

Susan Spicer

A leading woman in the culinary industry, Susan Spicer is a renaissance woman when it comes to cooking. Spicer began her career in 1970 under the guidance of Chef Daniel Bonnot at Louis XVI Restaurant, and later worked at the Hotel Sofitel in Paris with Chef Roland Durand. After spending four months in Paris, she moved back to New Orleans and opened her restaurant Savior Faire in the St. Charles Hotel. She expanded her business in 1986 when she debuted the Bistro at Maison de Ville in the Hotel Maison de Ville. After meeting Regina Keever four years later, she and Keever opened their internationally known restaurant Bayona in the French Quarter. Bayona experienced immediate success and was inducted into the Nation’s Restaurant News Fine Dining Hall of Fame in 1988, in addition to receiving an Ivy Award and being featured as one of New Orleans’s top five restaurants.

An entrepreneur, Spice continued to expand her business and opened up a specialty food market called Spice, Inc. that ran from 1997 to 1999. It provided a wide range of services such as take-out food, cooking classes, and an artisan bakery. With so much success, the market soon developed into Wild Flour Breads, which Spicer currently owns with Sandy Whann. In 2001, Spicer joined forces with The Kimpton Group to open Cobalt, just a year after debuting her restaurant Herbsaint with three other partners. After her Top Chef appearance in 2009, Spicer opened up a restaurant called Mondo in 2010 in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans, where she has lived for 20 years.

In addition to the restaurant business, she also published a cookbook in 2007 entitled Crescent City Cooking: Unforgettable Recipes from Susan Spicer’s New Orleans, which went on to be nominated for Best American Cookbook by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. It was also awarded Best New Cookbook by New Orleans Magazine, and was included in the Best of the Best in a list of the top 25 cookbooks of the year.

With so many successful undertakings, it is no surprise that Spicer received the James Beard Award in 1993, as well as the Mondavi Culinary Excellence Award in 1995. She was also inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America. Her famous restaurant Bayona continues to make headlines, being inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame in 2012. More than just a celebrity chef speaker, she also works closely with humanitarian efforts such as Share Our Strength’s annual Taste of the Nation, as well as the hunger-relief fundraiser Taste of the NFL.
