Dave Eckert

Celebrity speaker Dave Eckert brings more than 25 years of experience in broadcasting, food and dining reporting, and a passion for food and wine to the table in his Emmy award winning show Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert.  Before he landed the hit show, which airs across 160 Public Broadcasting affiliates across the country, he worked as a reporter covering news, sports, and weather before he found his niche in food when he was hired by Chicago superstation WGN-TV to help produce, report, and edit “What’s Cookin’ Chicago.” During his tenure with What’s Cookin’ Chicago, Eckert developed an incredible knowledge for food, and got to meet some of the world’s most talented chefs including Julia Child. This local foodie show in Chicago drove Dave to create his own show Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert. The 30-minute weekly television program features Dave traveling the globe to regions renowned for their amazing dining, wine production and agricultural products.  Dave has built quite the following with the show, and has been recognized twice by the Academy of Wine Communications for his work. In addition to his television work, Eckert has become known as one the world’s most prominent food, wine, and spirits connoisseurs.  The dining expert has a collection of about 3,000 bottles of wine and spirits in his home cellar, with many bottles coming from regions the Culinary Travels host has visited for his show, such as Italy, France, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Scotland, Mexico, and Kentucky. Additionally, Dave Eckert enjoys cooking and pairing wine with tasteful cuisine, and can be found teaching cooking and wine classes at the Culinary Center of Kansas City. He also writes a regular column for the nationally distributed Kansas City Bullsheet, and is a frequent contributor to the James Beard award wining Food section of the Kansas City Star newspaper.

Tommi Rae Fowler

As the cooking craze has increased its profile in the current pop culture market, it has spurned a new generation of food-loving future chefs.  One of these new stars is the rising teen cooking talent, Tommi Rae Fowler.  Born and raised in South Carolina, Fowler has grown up with hearty Southern food and tradition, which she claims is her signature cooking style.

Celebrity Chef Tommi Rae was basically born in the kitchen with her culinary roots dating back to her grandmother’s restaurant.  In the summer of 2014, Tommi Rae was chosen to compete in Food Network’s Chopped: Teen Challenge.  After multiple rounds of competition against some of the other top teen chefs in America, Tommi was able to come out on top and won the competition.  Fowler was the first ever winner of the challenge that just ended its inaugural year of competition.  At just the tender age of sixteen, Fowler was still a middling high school student at the time of the show’s airing.  She’s reached a new level of success in her short career in terms of local publicity.  Since appearing on Chopped, Tommi has appeared on variety of local television and radio shows in her home state of South Carolina.  A few years prior to her entry into the competition Fowler had to deal with a tragedy of her own.  While cooking in her family’s home, she accidently sent the house on ablaze resulting in a catastrophic fire that caused the family to lose almost everything they had.  Initially Tommi thought she never wanted to cook again because the cloud that cooking had cast over her family’s life.  But ultimately she decided that mastering the art that had caused her so much hardship was the goal that she need to work towards.

Shane Miller

Celebrity Chef Shane Miller is best known for winning Guy Fieri’s reality television show, Guy’s Grocery Games. When Chef Miller isn’t off winning challenging game shows, he can be found at his day job as the executive chef for Sodexo’s Leisure Division. Chef Shane Miller spends his days constantly brainstorming and creating new, tasty, menu items like wood-fired pizzas, and Korean beef street tacos, for clients such as Space Center Houston, and the Houston Zoo.  In addition to working as a chef for Sodexo, The Louisiana native, who now resides in Houston, has also spent time in New Orleans working with celebrity chef John Besh, which gave him a leg up on the competition in Guy’s Grocery Games when he had to make Jambalaya from a shopping list of specific ingredients.  As soon as Miller heard about opportunity to participate in the game show, which combines Supermarket Sweep with Food Network’s Chopped, he knew he’d be the perfect candidate. With his diverse cooking experience, working in every culinary genre from deep southern cooking to Tex-Mex, Shane was able to stay ahead of the competition. When given the first challenge to make a meal out of only canned goods and a fresh herb, he created an authentic Minestrone soup. When told to create the ultimate hot dog in the second challenge, he used his Texas roots to create a classic Texas-style chili cheese char dog with twice-fried home fries. To seal the deal in the last challenge, he used his experience in New Orleans to make the game winning Jambalaya. Next up on Chef Miller’s agenda is acting as a mentor to contestants in the Mars Food Competition at the Houston Space Center. Additionally, he plans to spend time traveling the country with his wife, who has recently retired from the military.

Marcel Vigneron

Known for incorporating molecular gastronomy into his cooking, Marcel Vigneron will again be utilizing his trademark culinary style August 6 against Richard Blais on Top Chef Duels. This will not be his first time on Top Chef though; he was actually the runner-up of the competition during its second season in 2006, during which time he was also developing his talents as the Master Cook at Joël Robuchon in Las Vegas. After placing behind Ilan Hall in 2006, he eventually went on to become the Executive Sous Chef at The Bazaar in the SLS Hotel in Beverley Hills in 2008. Two years later, Vigneron achieved his own reality television show on the Syfy network entitled Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen, which followed Vigneron and his crew as they tried to meet the substantial demands of their clients using Vigneron’s innovative and unique culinary technique.

Although Vigneron’s show only lasted six episodes, he was very successful as a guest on numerous other cooking shows. In 2011 he returned to the Top Chef series on Top Chef: All-Stars, in which he was eventually eliminated after the Restaurant Wars challenge. Returning to the television screen again in 2012 as a contestant on The Next Iron Chef: Redemption, Vigneron was able to make it to the final four of the competition before being eliminated. The next year, he made an appearance in Iron Chef America with Spike Mendelsohn, facing off against Iron Chefs Geoffrey Zakarian and Alex Guarnaschelli in a special Halloween edition of the series. More recently in 2014, he appeared on the NBC show Food Fighters, in which he competed against Elisha Joyce and won.

Dhani Jones

Dhani Jones is one of the latest celebrities to crossover from the athletic playing field to a celebrity personality.  Dhani has made the rare transition from the ‘athletic jock’ persona, to the cultured travel guide who’s been the host of his own television show.  Dhani’s appeal is unique in the culinary and travel lens, because he attracts a whole new market of viewers who identify with him because of his high profile as an athlete.

Celebrity Chef and Speaker Dhani Jones’ first claim to fame came as a linebacker in the National Football League.  He played 10 seasons in the league for 3 different teams before deciding to focus his efforts towards a career as a television personality.  At the end of his playing career, Dhani was chosen to host his own show on the Travel Channel called Dhani Tackles the Globe.  The show featured Dhani traveling to foreign countries all over the world to learn local sport and cultural traditions.  The show was a commercial successful and was brought back for a second season on the Travel Channel.  Dhani also briefly hosted a show on VH1 called of Ton of Cash that only lasted a single season. Aside from his work on television Dhani has also ventured off to establish a creative agency called VMG Creative, and opened a restaurant called Bow Tie Café.  Additionally, Dhani is a former contributor to the Page2 section of ESPN.com where he provided commentary pieces.  He also did a 7-part series for Men’s Journal called “Spirited Escapes” where he traveled the world and shared his personal experiences about culture and life.

In terms of philanthropy, Dhani has been a presence in a number of organizations.  Through his own charity, The BowTie Foundation, the primary objective is to enhance the personal development of underprivileged youths in the Cincinnati area.
