Savannah Red Rice

A Southern Side Dish full of flavor and tradition

Any Paula Deen fan knows the greatness that can come from pure Southern flavors. Savannah Red Rice is just such a dish, featuring the mouthwatering flavors of bacon, tomatoes, and onions. Pair this side dish with anything from fried chicken to seafood for a match made in heaven.

Ingredients

  1. 6 slices bacon, chopped
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  4. 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  5. 1 cup long-grain rice
  6. 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  7. 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  8. Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Cook the bacon in a big skillet until it is crispy. Save.

Sauté onion and bell pepper in the same skillet until tender.

Add rice, chicken broth, tomatoes, thyme, salt and pepper

Bring to a boil then lower the heat, cover and simmer until the rice is soft, about 25-30 minutes

Stir in the bacon when serving.
