Jeffrey Saad

Jeffrey Saad is the host of United Tastes of America on the Cooking Channel. While most people don’t consider flipping burgers to be their dream job, when Jeffrey did it for the first time at the age of thirteen, he knew he had found his true calling—in his own words, “I flipped my first burger and in that moment,  I knew that food was going to be my life.”

Celebrity Chef Speaker Jeffrey Saad got his culinary education at Iowa State, the Culinary Institute of America, and the California Culinary Academy before embarking on his own. He started his first restaurant in California called Sweet Heat, and the combination of healthy and fresh Mexican fare was a huge success. The rest is history for Jeffrey, who went on to open two more restaurants and become partner of the widely popular chain Pasta Pomodoro Italian Restaurants. In 2009, the celebrity chef competed on The Next Food Network Star, finishing as the season five runner up to Melissa d’Arabian but still impressing judge Bobby Flay; he was later featured on Grill It! with Bobby Flay. More importantly, Jeffrey caught the attention of audiences and foodies everywhere, which led to appearances on The Rachael Ray Show, ABC World News Now, Iron Chef America, and eventually his Cooking Channel show United Tastes of America. Putting new twists on old American trademarks and favorites like the burger, meatballs, and, Jeffrey’s personal favorite, pizza, has added to his popularity.

Jeffrey also enjoys using fresh foods and seasoning his dishes exotic spices; at one point he hosted Spice Smugglers, an online web series on Food Network, and owns his own collection of spice blends. In 2012, his first cookbook, called Jeffrey Saad’s Global Kitchen: Recipes Without Borders, was published. That same year he competed in Chopped All-Stars, finishing second to celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, no small feat for any chef. Jeffrey currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.

Ludo Lefebvre

Ludo Lefebvre grew up in France, but the renowned chef has done his part to make a name for himself in the United States. The media and press can’t seem to stop talking about him—the Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair, and GQ, among others, have ranted and raved about his international flavor, hundreds of spices, and superb restaurants. Celebrity Speaker Ludo was nominated for the Rising Star Award from the James Beard Foundation in 2001, and since then the French chef has put himself up there with the best of the best—he is the only Los Angeles Chef to have received two Mobil Travel Guide Five Star Award for not one but two of his restaurants.

After getting his start as the executive chef of restaurants L’Orangerie and Bastide, which flourished under his spatula, Ludo catapulted himself onto the food scene with his revolutionary concept of Ludobites, a pop-up restaurant that travels to different venues in order to serve dinner, staying at each location for only a few weeks. The affordable yet satiating eating experience has not only been so popular that six weeks of reservations will fill up in less than a minute, but it also earned Ludo the title of “the king of pop-ups” from Bon Appetit. Ludo went on to open his first permanent restaurant Trois Mec with partners Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, and LudoBird, a fried chicken spot in the Staples Center. Ludo’s success and presence on the frontier of a new type of dining experience has everyone ranting and raving and led to the opening of a new restaurant Petit Trois in 2014.

Ludo has authored two cookbooks, Crave: The Feast of the Five Senses in 2005 and LudoBites: Recipes and Stories from the Pop-Up Restaurants of Ludo Lefebvre, part success story part cookbook, in 2012. From challenging Mario Batali on Iron Chef America and guest judging on Hell’s Kitchen, Ludo is no stranger to television, appearing on NPR, No Reservations, CNN Money, and The Today Show, among others. He is also a judge with Nigella Lawson, Anthony Bourdain, and Marcus Samuelsson on the Emmy-nominated show The Taste. The father of two resides with his family in California.

Ashley Christensen

Celebrity Chef Speaker Ashley Christensen got her first taste of the food industry when she began throwing dinner parties for friends and family members during college. Realizing that hospitality and serving up delicious, comforting food was her passion, Ashley started down a new career path as a chef and proprietor, setting her pots and pans down in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her first restaurant, Poole’s Diner, opened in 2007; shortly after, four more ventures followed—Chicken + Honey, Chuck’s, Joule Coffee, and the Fox Liqour Bar. Every restaurant has a unique flavor, putting its own spin on traditional Southern favorites. Ambition is no problem for this motivated chef, who plans to open three more places in the area. Without a doubt, Ashley is a major force in Raleigh’s food and dining scene.

In 2014, she awarded a huge honor in the chef world: the James Beard Award of Best Chef: Southeast; Ashley has also previously cooked dinner at the James Beard house in New York. Her food and work in the kitchen garnered the accomplished chef attention from notable publications like the New York Times, Bon Appétit, Southern Living, and Gourmet, as well as television appearances on MSNBC’s Your Business and Iron Chef America. However, Ashley sees food as more than just a career and way to make money, but more importantly, it is a means to fostering and giving back to the community. She is involved with several charitable organizations, from serving on the boards of the Frankie Lemmon Foundation, Downtown Raleigh Alliance, and the Raleigh Contemporary Art Museum to co-hosting charity events such as the Triangle Wine Experience and Stir the Pot, an event which she founded herself. She is also heavily involved in the Southern Foodways Alliance. While most people would expect such an accomplished and driven chef to be all business, Ashley has been praised just as often for her respectful, affable, calm personality as her fried chicken recipe.

Tom Douglas

Celebrity chef, Tom Douglas, is a renowned chef, restaurateur, author, and radio talk show host. However, it took Douglas a while to find his niche in the culinary business. Tom moved to Seattle, his current city of residence, in 1977 and began working jobs in a variety of fields including general construction and railroad car mechanic.  Never having attended culinary school, Douglas developed natural talent by traveling and eating at various world-class restaurants throughout the world.  He began working his first restaurant job in Seattle in 1984 at Café Sport. Five years later, in 1989, he took a chance, and opened his first restaurant, the Dahlia Lounge. The Dahlia Lounge became an instant hit in the Pacific Northwest, and by 1994 the James Beard Foundation had declared him the best chef in the Northwest. To compliment the Dahlia Lounge, he opened the Dahlia bakery, which, to no one’s surprise, was also a hit in the Northwest.  Douglas and his wife Jackie Cross, who is also his business partner, went on to open Etta’s seafood, named after their daughter Loretta, and the Palace Kitchen, which went on to be nominated for a James Beard Award as one of the best new restaurants in the United States.  Continuing his success in the restaurant business, he opened Lola’s, which offers Greek-inspired cuisine, and his own local chain of pizzerias called Serious Pie.

Tom Douglas’ other accolades include a James Beard Award for best restaurateur, and a James Beard award for his cookbook entitled Tom Douglas’ Seattle Kitchen. This same cookbook also won the Best American Cookbook Award from KitchenAid.  As if one successful cookbook wasn’t enough, Chef Douglas has authored three additional cookbooks: Tom’s Big Dinners: Big-Time Home Cooking for Family and Friends, I Love Crab Cakes! 50 Recipes for an American Classic, and The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook.  Tom is also very active in the media, as he has made television appearances on some of the most popular culinary shows including Emeril Live, Iron Chef America, Martha Stewart, Giada De Laurentiis, Good Morning America, Top Chef, and Simply Ming.  Additionally, he co-hosts a weekly food radio show with his long time foodie friend, Thierry Rautureau, entitled in the Kitchen with Tom and Thierry. Chef Douglas’ most recent endeavor, however, has been opening a half-million dollar culinary school called Hot Stove, in which students can learn the chef’s secrets and tricks of the trade.

Chuck Hughes

In the evolving world of celebrity chefs, there are a wave of new stars in the industry and Chuck Hughes is one of the leaders.  Chuck entered the food industry as an assistant chef with a dream and has since risen to one of the most prominent culinary figures in the United States.  His rise to fame has been centered on his success in the Greater Montreal market with a slew of food related business ventures.

Celebrity Chef Chuck Hughes is known for his signature French cuisine, which is deep-rooted in his French-Canadian heritage.  Growing up in the bilingual city of Montreal exposed Hughes to the intricacies of multiple cultures and culinary styles on a daily basis.  Hughes is a proud co-owner of two of the most popular restaurants in Old Montreal called Garde Manger and Le Bremner.  Both restaurants feature some of the best fancy French Cuisine in a city that is characterized by its French influence.  In addition to his restaurants, Hughes has gained a reputation for his appearances on television both in Canada and the United States.  He first hosted his show Chuck’s Day Off, which was featured on the Food Network in Canada and The Cooking Channel in the United States.   This paved the way for Hughes’ later television series’ Chuck’s Week Off and Chuck’s Eat the Street and the Canadian version of Chopped.  Both of these currently air on The Cooking Channel.  Chuck also was featured on the American Iron Chef American Competition where he defeated the well-known Bobby Flay.  He became the Canadian chef to win the competition.

Away from the kitchen, Hughes has been involved in a variety of events for charity.  He has performed cooking demonstrations for the Prince Margaret hospital foundation, and in July of 2014 he made pancakes for the city of Montreal in exchange for donations to the OneXOne charity.
